As it is rightly said, “In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what happens within us.”

Everyone fears something or the other in life. I dreaded darkness and height. When my family, friends and myself were in Manali, we decided to visit the famous Rohtang Pass. It was 51 km from Manali. At a height of 13500 ft above ground level and freezing temperatures and continuous wind blowing, people with weak heart generally do not go. I frankly didn’t like the idea, but couldn’t do anything. We left for Rohtang and reached there. There was a problem rather disadvantage that only 100 cars could go in first. We didn’t get the chance first. But we didn’t lose hope. The next day I was discouraged and didn’t want to go. The leader of our group, was my dad. I approached him and said that I wouldn’t come. I tried to make excuses but was unsuccessful. He finally knew the truth and told me to watch a video of Arunima Sinha. She was the first Indian amputee to climb Mount Everest. She was also the first female amputee to climb Mount Everest. I was totally awestruck when I saw the video of ‘ARUNIMA SINHA – TOP OF THE WORLD.’ At first I didn’t believe it but I had to because it was the point blank reality. I was encouraged and ready to go there. It was a sagacious decision I took. This was only one inspiring story of my life. Every single person on the planet has a story. Read to find mine.

One more story I would like to share, which was a turning point in my life. At first I didn’t like sports at all. I thought that because of my short height I wouldn’t be able to play any game. But my mom shared a story with me. In 1998, world cup, India vs. Pakistan. India was on the verge of losing. A 16 year old boy, Sachin Tendulkar came on the pitch to play. He was playing against Waqar Younis, who was a right-armed fast bowler. He got hurt straight onto his nose. His nose was bleeding profusely. If he wanted, he could go back to the pavilion and rest. But he didn’t. He knew that it was his debut match and if he would go back he couldn’t create an impression in the minds of the people who were watching him. So he said just two words, the two words were, “ME KHELEGA”. These two words spoken by him changed the history of Indian cricket. I was very inspired by him. He gave me the motivation to join my school handball.

I like to browse through the internet, so one day I came across a story which was worth telling everyone. The story was too good. Once a daughter thought that her life was lamentable. She would keep on complaining her dad about it. Her dad took her in the kitchen. Without speaking a word, he put three pots with water on the stove. When the water started boiling, he put potatoes in one pot, eggs in the other and ground coffee beans in the third. After 20 minutes, he put the potatoes and eggs in separate bowls and coffee in a cup. He told his daughter to touch the potatoes, break the eggs and take a sip of the coffee. The potatoes became soft, the eggs became hard and after drinking the coffee there was a big smile on her face. The potatoes and eggs changed accordingly, but the coffee was unique. It changed the water and created something new. We should be like coffee beans and create something new if we are exposed to difficulties (the boiling water).

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a very famous cricketer. Though he too had to face many difficulties in life. His life started as a ticket collector. Let us start from the begining. He started as a wicketkeeper at school level. He continued to play and his game was even better every day. Because of financial crisis, he did a job of TC at Khadagpur station. In sports quota, he went for selections in the Indian team but failed for the first time. But he gave it a short for the next. From that time, he has been playing in the cricket team. He has been described as “From Ticket Collector to Trophy Collector”.

I love reading a lot. I have heard that J.K Rowling moved to Portugal in 1990 to teach English. There, she met and married the Portuguese journalist Jorge Arantes. The couple's daughter, Jessica, was born in 1993. After her marriage ended in divorce, Rowling moved to Edinburgh with her daughter to live near her younger sister. While struggling to support Jessica and herself on welfare, she worked on a book, the idea for which had reportedly occurred to her while she was traveling on a train from Manchester to London in 1990. After a number of rejections, she finally sold the book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. As I too want to become an author after I grow up, her story inspires me a lot.

We all know Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, better as Akshay Kumar. he was born in Amritsar, India to Hari Om Bhatia and Aruna Bhatia. His father was a military officer. From a young age, he was recognized as a performer, particularly as a dancer. He lived and grew up in Delhi's Chandni Chowk and later he moved to Mumbai where he lived in Koliwada, a Punjabi dominated area. He received his school education from Don Bosco School and enrolled in Mumbai's Guru Nanak Khalsa College for higher education, but dropped out after a year and went to Bangkok to learn martial arts. He also has a sister, Alka Bhatia. When he was a teenager, his father asked him what he aspired to be. He expressed his desire to become an actor. After having obtained a black belt in Taekwondo while in India, he studied martial arts in Bangkok, Thailand, where he learned Muay Thai and worked as a chef and waiter. Upon his return to Mumbai, he commenced the teaching of martial arts. One of his students, an aspiring photographer, recommended him into modelling which ultimately led to a modelling assignment. He effectively made more money within the first two days of shooting, in comparison to his entire months salary, and therefore chose a modelling career path. He worked as an assistant for photographer Jayesh Sheth for 18 months without payment to shoot his first portfolio. He also worked as a background dancer in various films. One morning, he missed his flight for an ad-shoot in Bangalore. Disappointed with himself, he visited a film studio along with his portfolio. That evening, Kumar was signed for a lead role by producer Pramod Chakravarthy for the movie Deedar. I’m oppsessed with bollywood an so find his story truly inspiring. From a chef to an actor.

We all know Mary Kom, right. Well, she didn’t reach to that height in an easy manner! She too had to face a lot of difficulties in life. She came from a small and poor village of Manipur. After studying till grade VIII, she didn’t pass grade IX and X. She didn’t want to reappear so she quit studies. She had a keen interest in sports especially athletics. But her father discouraged it. She went to play state championship and won it. She went without telling it to her father. When her father saw her photograph in newspaper he scolded her a lot. She faced many difficulties as a daughter, wife and mother. Her story is also very encouraging.

My uncle is a great runner. After doing many marathons of 10 km, 21 km and 42 km and now at the age of 50, he is trying for Comrades, a 89 km marathon. Inspired by him, I ran my first marathon of 3 km in 2015.

My mom also has given me the inspiration to never stop learning. She is still pursuing her dream of doing her PhD.

“The real flight of this hawk is impending,

Right now, this bird is yet to be tested,

Though I have leaped over the seas,

 The entire sky is remaining.”
