Mimi’s Pets

Mimi wishes to have a pet of her own like her friends have. She waited eagerly in the evening for her father to return home. She has asked her mother for a pet but Mom is against it. She doesn’t like cats and dogs following her everywhere even to kitchen. Mimi likes to play with these cute little things but can’t say anything in home due to her mom’s pet hate.

But today is different. Because today, Mimi has discovered a very cute kitten; near the building construction site on her way back to home from school. Her pull car stopped there for a minute to drop of Tuhin when she saw it. She was very excited when her mom opened the door. Her mom asked “What is the reason for this excitement dear?”

She said “Mom I saw a beautiful white kitten on my way back to home. It was just lovely. I felt like carrying it back home”

Her mom screamed “No, No means no. No cats and dogs for this house”

At that moment she declared if Mimi brings any dog or cat home she will just throw it out. Even if she requests her daddy her decision won’t change. Mimi was sad but still hoped her father will surely find a way out.

Mimi was studying when the bell rang. She peeped through the study room door to see who has come. After a moment she found her father entering the drawing room. She felt like running to him at once to share her excitement but stopped herself. Mom is talking something important to him. After an hour or something her daddy entered her study room and said “What is my loving daughter doing now? Didn’t you finish your studies?”

Mimi came near her dad and made him sit on the chair. Then she said “Yes my studies have finished. Daddy I’ve something interesting to say to you” Then she explained about the cute kitten and how she found it out. Her dad listened to her then asked “Did you bring it home?”

“No mom said she will throw it out if I bring it”

“I know”

“But daddy I wish to have a pet”

Her dad thought for few minutes then said “Ok let me think for tonight. Tomorrow I’ll surely find a way out to find pet for you and will also see that your mother doesn’t object to it”

Mimi kissed her daddy.

At night Mimi dreamt of playing with a lovely cutie kitten whom she christened Nancy. Next morning she woke up to someone’s calling “Mimi.... Mimi dear” She opened her eyes to find her daddy standing in front of her. She yawned and wished “Good morning daddy” She remembered it is Saturday and her school is off.

“Good morning beta. Get fresh quickly and come to the terrace I’ll show you something”

“What is it daddy?”

“Surprise!” and he left.

Mimi wondered for a second. She couldn’t understand what her father is going to show her. She ran quickly to the terrace after refreshing herself. Her daddy was standing near the terrace door. Then she noticed few birds on the terrace floor pecking at something. “Dad what are you doing here? And what are those birds eating?”

“These” said her father opening his palm. Mimi saw grains of rice wheat cereals in his hand. “Can I feed them too?”

“Oh yes” her daddy replied. She took some and spread them on the floor. Birds ate them happily. Her father said “These are new pets of yours. From today you are going to take care of them feed them. Only remember don’t run towards them to catch then they be frightened and will fly away”

“So lovely daddy” and she hugged her father.

Then her father took her for a walk. On the way her father bought some packets of biscuits. He asked her to feed them to the stray dogs and cats of the neighbourhood. He said “If you be kind to them then you will receive their love and loyalty. Did you understand dear?” Mimi nodded her head. She has understood what her father wished her to say. Now her father said “So are you still interested in a single kitten or want this whole set of pets dear?”

Mimi said “I would love to have this full set of pets”

From that day Mimi was never sad that she didn’t own a cute kitten or a lovely dog like her friends but was very happy that she had a group of pets. She has made a long list of names to name her pets. Isn’t that lovely children!
