Meeting The Great Violinist

Meeting The Great Violinist

It was during my engineering degree that I was exposed to a lot of different kinds of music - Indian and western classical, Bollywood, Tollywood, pop, jazz and hard rock as my friends in my hostel had varied interests in music.

Since I had some knowledge of the Carnatic violin, I got drawn to classical violinists and to the famous Dr. L Subramaniam. His album "Conversations" caught by ear so to say and I listened to it whenever I had a difficult subject to understand and interpret before my exams. It felt like my brain cells starting working right when I heard the song.

Time passed, I graduated and worked at many global IT organizations across India, Europe, and the USA. Soon the monotony of work took over and I leaned back to my liking for violin and started learning it again after many years. Then again I got married and went to the US with my husband and there was another break in my endeavor to learn the instrument.

After about a year in the US, we decided to relocate back to India and Bangalore become our home. As my son was about 6 years, I felt he had to learn music in some form and this bought me to the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts (SaPa) where my son enrolled for Carnatic vocal and violin.

By then, I had got a bit saturated with my IT work and wanted to do something more towards fulfilling my life aspirations. I decided once again to join violin classes near my home. I continued with it for about 2 years.

Then like a eureka moment I came across the information that Dr. L Subramaniam has started a Bachelors's course in Music. This intrigued me and I made the bold step of becoming a student again and joined the BA course. This leads me to a meeting with Dr. L Subramaniam at the orientation of the course.

It was a dream come true for me after loving his albums as a young girl. Happy to be now part of the organization as a student.
