"Lost in the Crowd: The Fading Spirituality of MahaKumbh"
The Mahakumbh festival in Allahabad witnessed a massive gathering of over 66 crore people, which is more than double the population of America. This phenomenon showcases the increasing faith in religion amidst modernity.
While some people visit the festival to attain spiritual enlightenment, others come to indulge in luxurious amenities. A multinational travel company has set up luxurious cottages with modern amenities, including televisions, telephones, and email connections.
However, some sadhus have expressed their discontent towards the commercialization of the festival. They believe that spiritual enlightenment and salvation can only be achieved through their blessings and guidance.
The company has now started appeasing the sadhus to avoid any controversy. It is ironic that in today's world, money and power hold more significance than spiritual enlightenment.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad is also trying to assert its dominance during the festival to garner support for its future agendas.
It is surprising that despite the large-scale pollution of the Gangas, no national campaign has been launched to clean the river. It is imperative that we take collective responsibility to preserve our sacred rivers.
The real punya (spiritual merit) of the Gangas lies not in taking a dip in its polluted waters but in working towards its purification. Will anyone take up the challenge to launch a national campaign to clean the Gangas ?
