It was night, but for Jacob, it was life. He had done all he could – Read self-help books, talked to his friends etc. But still, he felt keenly the lack of something. Did I mention his age? Jacob was 75, or shall we say just 75? While thinking, suddenly the telephone rang, disturbing him from his dreams. He picked it up, and announced his name. It was his son, Peter. He was calling to explain that Peter`s daughter, Emma, wished to celebrate her 11th b-day with her grandpa. Jacob was touched by Emma`s affection, and expressed his desire to talk to her. Emma came on the line, and happily informed Jacob about her birthday party. They had planned to bake the birthday cake post-lunch. Also, Emma told her Grandpa that her best friend and her parents were accompanying them, and they would reach Jacob`s house in a couple of hours. Jacob then said that he was very happy that Emma wanted to celebrate her b-day with him, and after bidding her goodbye, he disconnected and went back to his dreams.

Knock-knock, came the knocking on the door. He got up, and opened his wooden door. Emma rushed in, and hugged him. Peter and his wife, Marissa, greeted him and told him how much she had missed him. He staggered back to his armchair, and invited them all to sit on the sofa and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace. Everyone was joyful to be together again. Then came some squeals, as Emma`s best friend, Kelly, and her parents, Edward and Erin, entered the house and said hello to Jacob. Jacob served everyone tea and biscuits, and explained he was feeling alone and was pleasantly surprised to know Emma`s choice of her b-day venue.

That night, when everyone was asleep in their beds, Jacob sat in his armchair and wondered about his aim in life. He wished there was a person who could help him in rejuvenating his enthusiasm and perspective towards life. Suddenly, he heard some movement in the room where Emma was sleeping with her parents. The door opened slightly and Emma silently came out. She looked in Jacob`s direction, and spotted him. She asked, "Grandpa, what is disturbing you? You often seem like a man in a dream. Can I help you with something? "Jacob thought and replied, "Emma, maybe you`re the one who can help me. I often feel a sadness, a lack of something. I wonder what am I living for. Sometimes, I even question my existence !! I am not happy these days, because of this vacuum. Might you know what`s wrong?" Emma thought, before responding that she felt the cause was that Jacob lived alone, without Peter, and that he needed a child, like her, who was full of life and laughter, to rejuvenate him, to bring him to reality. Jacob agreed, and then bid her good night and went to sleep. Emma thought for some time, then went to sleep. Dawn broke the next day, and Emma woke up early, smiling. She immediately woke her father, and told him her plan. He agreed to help her and they both set about.

Soon, Marissa, Erin, Edward, and Kelly woke up. Jacob was already awake, and strolling in his garden. He was still thinking about his problem, and how to get rid of it. While coming back to his house, he tripped. That`s right, he tripped. He fell, but wasn't hurt as there was a mattress spread out. He chuckled at himself, and lost all his worries. Guess what? Emma had arranged for him to be tripped. This way, he could clear his worries, he would be busy laughing, and would be able to enjoy life the way it is. Everyday he thought about that hilarious day, and more he thought about it, the more he understood. He remembered that his mother always said to him, "Remember Son, to live, you must always be happy and healthy. Lack of either happiness or health will disturb your life." He now felt calm and relaxed, and started practicing yoga, and visiting his friends at their houses and spending time with them. He knew that he owed this to his dear grand-daughter, Emma. She even convinced Peter to visit Jacob thrice a year, just to increase the cheerfulness factor!
