Lockdown 4.0: IGNOU has created a unique way of reaching to unreached with Jugaad Technology.

New Delhi: Media has existed in India since ancient times. Communication theory in India is associated with poetry tradition, reciting tradition has been the specialty of India and overtime when media has taken new forms, the Indian society has quickly adopted and played an important role in human progress. Today, we are moving beyond the world of radio-TV and living in the world of the internet, but the three mediums remain relevant even today - radio-TV and Internet media have their own beauty. Indira Gandhi National Open University has access to its students through these three media. IGNOU's Gyan Vani Radio FM 105.6 MegaHertz is broadcast daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, similarly, IGNOU's Gyan Darshan educational TV telecast daily 24 hours, along with this students can also access IGNOU Online web Radio Gyan Dhara, Reaching the unreached daily with interesting, entertaining and educational programs, IGNOU with its traditional means of communication along with New Media BASED on Internet reaches its students, During the COVID-19 crisis, when the process of reading has been disrupted in almost all educational institutions, IGNOU is providing teaching-training, guidance to its students through online Gyanadhara and Gyan Darshan TV, including Gyanvani radio.

Before lock-down, Gyanvani and Gyanadarshan were two separate sections :

Gyanvani Radio and Gyanadarshan TV had separate broadcast/telecast i.e. both mediums functioned as separate sections under the electronic media production center of IGNOU. Both the sections have competent personnel, Many personnel was working for Gyan Darshan Studio while many personnel was working for Gyanvani.

During the lockdown Simulcasting of Gyanvani, Web radio gyandhara, and Gyan Darshan through Jugaad Technology:

Due to the lockdown, the inflow of staff was very less around 5% and the jugaad was thought to keep both medium effective so that the need for home base learner could be met with at least staff also. So something started like Jugaad broadcasting - a live program of Gyanvani, gyandhara and Gyan Darshan are happening simultaneously during lockdown i.e. all of the simulations. IGNOU has combined the mediums. Despite the lack of staff in the lockdown, Gyanvani, gyandhara, and Gyan Darshan have been regularly broadcasting/telecasting only with the help of channel co-ordinators and some announcers.

In fact, Gyanvani Studio, where the radio's live programs are done --- a camera was placed in the same studio so that the live program was also telecast live on Gyan Darshan --- this amazing experiment of Jugaad medium which is quite an effective and successful. Listen to Suno Kahani live daily from 5: 30-6: 00 .. by Professor Satyakam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU. Daily maximum Live Simulcasting of interactive sessions are being done related to various subjects, which helps the students in a lot of studies, especially psychology-based issues are discussed daily so that student or anyone feels stress-free during the lockdown. Any Gyan Vani listener - an audience of Gyan Darshan or student can call the toll free number 1800112347 and ask questions related to the subject. Gyanvani's station manager Manoj Kumar Singh stated that 'their initiative to do continuing Gyanvani, gyandhara, and Gyandarshan as a Lifeline of home base learners as well as others, and IGNOU has reached out to its students more vigorously in lockdown due to the Simulcasting.

More importantly, IGNOU Vice-Chancellor, all Pro Vice-Chancellors and Directors of EMPC are always ready to support/solutions for the students having any problems. Truly, given the practical use of radio and TV by IGNOU, it can be said that even today, the importance of radio-TV remains - and if these mediums are connected through the Internet, IGNOU is reaching to unreached successfully and home base learners are taking benefits during the lockdown.
