Life As We Know It!

Life As We Know It!

Ever wondered where your life is going or why things are not happening the way it was meant to be? It could be your best friend marrying her college sweetheart while you have been single for 5 years with 2 previous heartbreaks or maybe your brother getting that coveted job while you are still struggling to understand the career path you want to choose.

We have set parameters and standards that need to be met at any cost to be satisfied with our lives. Of course it is not possible to have vital stats of 34-32-42 and be happy; it has to be perfect 36-24-36! It is really sad if only 500 “friends” like your best facebook display picture while your boyfriend’s ex gets 520 likes! In this competitive world we find our place in the crowd only by fitting into the moulds that we have created for ourselves.

It is already hard when your parents, friends and of course “the society “have some expectations from you. Why do we have to complicate God’s gift to us by having never-ending expectations from ourselves as well. We can take one day at a time, derive happiness from the amazing way in which the tiny baby next-door smiles, the way freshly baked bread at the bakery smells and definitely the bliss you experience while walking barefoot on wet grass. After all, happiness can be found in the little things. Have you ever imagined what may make you smile at the age of 60? Well, I have and I really feel that it is the day I took off from work and sat under a waterfall with the amazing feel of cold water flow in a rush on my body that would make me smile rather than the memory of a nasty revert to my mail from a grumpy colleague.

Of course I do not contest the fact that a good job with a handsome salary is needed to have wonderful weekends, but my point is that we should not spend 5 days of the week worrying whether we have made our boss happy and the other 2 days worrying whether we are having enough fun to compensate for the way we have slogged from Monday to Friday. There is much more to be enjoyed than achieving targets in our personal and professional life.

Let go of the insecurities, your imperfections are what make you perfect! You can definitely have that extra slice of cake and maybe work it off by going for Zumba classes which you any which ways have been planning to go for since ages. You best friend may be getting married, but you are single and have a chance to be the bridesmaid and flirt with the best man! Your brother may have got the coveted job but you have the chance to explore and end up following your hobby which can be converted into something that can earn you money. Your boyfriend’s ex may have more people liking her picture, but you are the only person who can light up your boyfriend like a Christmas tree. The moral of the story is that life as we know it can definitely be the life that we want by simply changing our perspective.
