Isolation

Isolation

This is a time of crisis. A time of very real, tangible danger. We have closed our borders, and locked ourselves down, shutting ourselves off from the World around us.

Isolation. Is. Key.

Homes have been converted to workspaces, and so many are suddenly faced with the daunting reality of being by themselves day and night, and day and night. A small number of us are good at that. We may shine from the shadows even. But the vast majority of folks now find themselves outside their comfort zones, inside the comfort of their own homes. A little uncertain of themselves... Alone even.

Isolated.

But, are we though?

In an age of advanced technology and over-use of our phones, nobody is isolated. Nobody is alone. How can we be? Why should we be?

Today, our eyes are open to all that is truly important in our lives. What really matters when everything goes to hell. And today, we have the time, for once in our lives, to do something about it. We have the time to shout out to that old buddy we've been thinking of, to talk to a grandmother we've not met in a decade, to message that colleague we used to spend all our time with once. Today, we have the time to make it up to the friend we weren't there for, couldn't be there for, couldn't find the time for. We have the time. And we have the means.

We are not isolated.

So, take the time to call up that old boy, ask the friend a World away if she's doing okay, message the random stranger you had that fleeting moment of connecting with last week. Tell the people you love that you love them. You do not say it enough. Let the person who crosses your mind know that you're thinking about him. Be a counselor to that friend of a friend you met at some forgotten party because she's feeling low. Reach out to those strangers who've turned friends, and the one you wished had, and the friends who've become strangers. Thank those who take out time to text you every single day, all 4 of those persons, no matter how busy they are. Be with those 2 school friends you've grown up with and who've been your rocks, however difficult you've made it for them to do so. This is the time. Now we have the time.

You are not alone.

And once we come out of this, and we will come out of this, we will be the stronger for it. Because we are not closing our borders, we are not locking ourselves in, we are not shutting out our World.

Be safe, be strong, be connected.
