Is It Deep Or Merely Shallow

The word shallow has always been an insult one strives for the perception of depth in their character. People who are shallow are often described as materialistic, selfish, and bad. We judge people who would rather be good looking, opportunity grabbing, and posses the trait of placing their own desires ahead of others. While it's very well understood that an individual who is "deep" is an intellectual someone who tries to go into the depths of matters instead of just judging by their outer covering.

This is the story of an incident that affected me greatly, about two years ago. After completing college which was when I got greatly influenced by philosophy and life and how we could better understand it. Due to this, I signed up on a trip to the mountains which was supposed to help give up my shallow desires and become one with nature. On this journey a made quite a few friends and after three months at the end of our journey, we decided to go back together. It is important to note that in this stage we could no help but feel like we knew more than everyone else it almost felt like all of us knew a secret that nobody else was in on. On our last gathering before dispersing to each of our separate destinations we decided to get a club mostly because it was a place which made us feel superior and why the hell not we were intellectuals were smarter than all the other people here. This is when a woman caught the eye of one of my friends. One look at her was enough to know that she was the most gorgeous person in there, and so my friend brought our attention to her. A lot of things were brought up and while we knew better than to judge a person by their external traits we could not help but wonder how much easier life must be to her.

This was the moment when we knew that all of our hard work for three months had gone to waste.

which made me wonder why did I even do it in the first place. It wasn't about achieving greatness and shedding of our shallow desire, It was to follow our shallowest of shallow desire to present the perception of depth when in reality I was trying to control my insecurities and worldly needs by trying to be smarter than everyone else Because deep down I knew thinking hard about inconsequential matters such, whose answers we can never really find is a superior method of procrastination and instead of dealing with my problems in life I was wasting my time trying to find the meaning of it.
