India one of the oldest civilizations in the world, India is a mosaic of multicultural experiences. With a rich heritage and myriad attractions, the country is among the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It covers an area of 32,87,263 sq. km, extending from the snow-covered Himalayan heights to the tropical rain forests of the south. As the 7th largest country in the world, India stands apart from the rest of Asia, marked off as it is by mountains and the sea, which give the country a distinct geographical entity.
History
From the mid-18th century to the mid-19th century, large regions of India were gradually annexed by the East India company, a charactered company acting as a sovereign power on behalf of the British government. Dissatisfaction with Company rule in India led to the Indian Rebellion of 1857, which rocked parts of north and central India, and led to the dissolution of the company. India was afterward ruled directly by the British Crown, in the British Raj. After World War 1, a nationwide struggle for independence was launched by Mahatma Gandhi and noted for nonviolence. Later, the All-India Muslim League would advocate for a separate Muslim-majority nation state. The British Indian Empire was partitioned in August 1947 into the Dominion of India and Dominion of Pakistan, each gaining its independence.
Culture
India's culture is very old. Over the centuries, there has been a significant fusion of cultures between Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Sikhs, and various tribal populations in India. India is the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, Muslims, and other religions. There are various festivals like Ganesh Puja, Saraswati Puja, Dashera, Diwali, Christmas, Ramzan Id, Bakr Id, Baisakhi, etc. And there are different types of dance in India like Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Lavni, Dhangari Gaja, Koli, Kathakali, etc. There is various food in India like Idli sambhar, Chicken tikka masala, Palak paneer, chana masala, etc.
Freedom Struggle
The Indian independence movement encompassed all sections of society.It was in constant ideological evolution.Although the underlying ideology was anti-colonial, it was supported by a vision of independent , economic development coupled with a secular, democratic, republican and civil-libertarian political structure. After the 1930s, the movement took on a strong socialist orientation. The work of these various movements ultimately led to the Indian Independence Act 1947, which ended suzerainty in India, and created Pakistan.
India remained a Crown Dominion until 26 January 1950, when the Constitution of India came into force, establishing the republic of India, Pakistan was a dominion until 1956 when it adopted its first republican constitution. In 1971 . East Pakistan declared independence as the people's republic of Bangladesh.
But nowadays, people of different languages and different cultures different religions live in India and have fun, enjoy together in various festivals.
