Heroes Never Fade

It was a great weekend and we all were expecting no worries and disappointments. But nothing has been under the control of a mere human being and we were no exceptions.

All I can remember is that we were singing our old family songs, laughing, cheering and danced like we got some otherworldly powers. All my relatives went back to their homes, like just a little distance from my house. Then there happened... some sort of banging, knocking, ughhh...those memories still haunts me. Dad and mom asked my Nana 'my caretaker' to take me and go upstairs to hide in the attic and not to come downstairs till they say!! I..I saw the fear in their eyes of losing the life, everything they had including me and themselves too. I don't know what they were thinking at that moment, but I can say that they were ready to fight, at any cost. The door breaks into little pieces as if it was nothing for them. Actually my dad was a Navy commander, he had seen worse than this. But "this" and "that" cases were not the same. This was the first time I saw him cry.

There were 2 bandits, out of which 1 was loaded with weapons. But for my dad, they were no less than chicken. The moment he noticed that the weapons they were carrying are not loaded, leave the loaded stuff aside, the weapons were even close to reality. He laughed wickedly and just with some of his basic reflexes, he choked them nearly to their death. Mamma called me and Nana and said that there is nothing to worry about!! All they had was a

door-breaker, a knife which was also little blunt and chloroform. My dad reported them to the police station and came home as nothing happened.

That moment, I realized that a person with family support and responsibility like protecting his/her family can fight to the bitter end.

Today, he was on his death bed and I don't know from where this incident came from, it.....I don't know what to say, but my tears rolled down perpetually. To me, he was my true, my first hero. The last words of him were " Take care of yourself, your mom and your family. Nothing is more important than the smiles on their faces". They said "No one can love you more than mother", but they always have forgotten to mention the sacrifices of a father he has to take to run the family peacefully.
