Her Soulmate…
Her Soulmate…
I took a seat on a small bench in the colony’s park. Beside me sat a beautiful young lady, her back was towards me and she was glancing into her phone. She looked like a regular exerciser. she opened her black purse, took out a napkin wiped the sweat off her forehead and then glanced at me. This time, I saw her face clearly under that of the evening sky.
She was a tall woman with blonde locks which she had kept shoulder-length, opaque red lips, brown skin and tiny eyes which were cute, and she looked like she was in her mid-twenties. After drinking water she glanced at me and said-
"Never seen you here before, are you recently shifted” she beamed.
"Yes, moved in last week, but had been busy with my online office work. I got some time on my hand right now, so just came for a jog” I smiled back.
"I see, by the way, I am Laura, and what’s your good name?” she said extending her palm forward. I gripped her palm with mine and replied “Marie”. Soon we started a small talk while we both walked on the jogging trail.
"You live here alone,” I asked after I had introduced myself and told her that I live with my younger daughter and my two grandchildren.
"Oh no I don’t live alone, I live with my soulmate, we are together since I was fifteen. Her name is Lucy. If I tell you about her, I will keep on talking, there is a lot I can say about her” she told dramatically but humorously rolling her eyes.
"I am all ears, you can talk about her,” I said playfully patting her back.
"Well, when I was fifteen, I met her at my grandmother’s backyard behind some bushes. I asked my parents if I could take her along with me because she was so lonely and desperate. After a lot of convincing from my end, I took her to New York. She is ten years old and I am twenty-five. But, sometimes she can be a handful you know.
One day my aunt Aurel came to visit and she is damn scared of Lucy, so I kept Lucy inside my bedroom and left the door slightly ajar, thinking Lucy would be a good girl and stay inside. When I was serving my aunt sausages, she sprang suddenly down the stairs pouncing on my aunt and giving her warm hugs and kissing her cheeks. My aunt Aurel, just grabbed her bag and rushed on the sofa, all scared. I took Lucy and locked her back in my room, cleaned the mess she had done, remade the sausages and then served my aunt her food. That day was so tiring you know.
I will tell you one more incident about my Lucy. I was sad one day because I was not selected for my college’s basketball team. I came home all sad and did not eat any food, but gave Lucy her food. She wasn’t ready to eat either because I wasn’t having food. She reads me like an open book. I hope we stay together forever” she finally finished and let out a sharp breath.
I smiled at her. “she is indeed a true soulmate” I said nodding my head and suppressing a tender smirk.
We talked more and she glanced at her wristwatch, “Oh no, I have to go, Lucy must be waiting, I have to take her to her friend’s place” she said.
"Oh, I see, see you,” I said nodding once more, but curiosity about who exactly Lucy was to her as her soulmate lingered in my heart.
I was going to stop her as she turned on her heel to go, but she herself looked at me once more and gave a handshake and
before going she answered
“Come home for dinner someday, I live in the Turquoise Hills right beside your block- Red Hills, Flat number 308, and Lucy loves guests!” she beamed widely. Now that she had invited me over for dinner, I had to know who Lucy exactly was. “Umm…you told me that Lucy is your soulmate, but exactly who is she…I mean your bestie, girlfriend, friend, sister?”
"Uh,” she exclaimed with surprise in her eyes. A small chuckle left her lips and she said “none of those whom you mentioned, Lucy is my ten-year-old German Shepherd!”
