Having a life while you're single

I was speaking with some friends recently and we were talking about single life. They went on to tell me that they had no life, no hobbies, and nothing going on. They said when you get someone then you get all of that.

I sat back and thought about how sad that was. When they asked me if it was the same for me, I almost didn't want to make them feel bad by saying no way. I am single but I have an amazing life. 

I go out with my friends, I have hobbies, I love to bike ride, Rollerblade, hike, go to the beach and write. I enjoy being by myself, whether at the beach or a concert there at night. I travel by myself, I keep trying to go on dates, shitty or not I put myself out there. I am living a full life right now, this second, whether I have a man or not. 

I am not putting my life on hold until I get a man, hell I may never find another prince so why would I wait to have a life? No, I am living this life, right now to the fullest. I am not sitting home feeling sorry for myself, I can tell you that is not happening. 

This weekend alone I went out to dinner and shot pool with a friend on Friday night. Saturday morning I went to brunch with a friend. Saturday night I had a date and afterward went out and met up with some old school friends to watch a band. On Sunday I walked around my lake, had breakfast with my girls, and then had tacos dinner with them and had a movie night. 

I live a full life with myself and with others and I'll be damned if I will sit around waiting to live. Why? Why would you do that? We may not have tomorrow or next week, nothing is a given especially in today's world. So why would you wait?

As much as I loved that movie, that famous line in it is not for me. "You complete me" No honey, I complete me and you are just an added bonus.

I love my single life and yes, I love being in a relationship but either way, I am not going to stop doing what I love to do. I will keep my brain going with my hobbies, keep my soul going with my faith and church. Keep my laughter going with my friends, keep my love going with my girls. I will keep my life going, living it to the fullest and having a blast along the way. Until I go screeching into my grave screaming "What a frigging ride!!" 

So today my friends remember, your life doesn't start when you meet someone. Your life starts the minute you start living it. Whether single or not, learn to love yourself and your own company. Learn to put yourself out there, make an effort. Find a hobby, find friends to do things with. Don't sit around waiting for life to happen, you make it happen. And as I say at the end of every blog…
