Gungun Is Muttering Again

Gungun was my favorite student, I was her class teacher and at the beginning of the session, there was a hard competition to be elected as monitor among the students. she was so clever and intelligent that I couldn't resist me to appoint her class monitor. Gungun fulfilled the meaning of her name- always chittering but slowly.

On the last day before summer vacation, she told me that she was going to Mathura with her maternal grandparents. she said "Nani suffering from cancer and Nana needs somebody to look after her and the household chores." she was brimming with laugher but it was the last bout of happiness.

After summer vacation when she returned she was so silent that I thought class will be now more disciplined as she didn't insist to become a monitor though it was a new session. For the next four days, she became silent, something was missing! her silence was now disturbing me. Other teachers also paid attention to her unnatural silence. In the last period, I decided to talk to her when I hugged her and asked she replied only with two tears those two tears drenched me from inside.

The next day after the first period which was the class teacher period usually found her somewhat relieved . After the period when I opened my class register to Mark attendance I found a folded paper it was Gu Gungun 's letter To me. In which she wrote, "mam, please help me! Nana is very bad, he did very bad to me, I will kill Nana." I was moved inside and asked her everything when I asked," did you tell your mother ?" she replied," yes, but ma'am she doesn't believe, ".she told me to shut my mouth otherwise Papa will throw us out of the house". Her last lines were, "I will kill Nana, I will kill Nana." I call Gungun' s mother in school and asked about the incident. she didn't show any surprise and started blabbering," she is insane, she will destroy me, she is a liar, mam" don't believe her she is suffering from mental illness." I know this mental suffering was posed on Gungun forcefully to save her family I took her mother to principal's office where she narrated again the same story .she also added that Gungun is under medical treatment for insanity we asked for a prescription and allowed her to go. For one week Gungun was absent from class.

Next week Gungun came to school this time more weak and timid than before. Her mother sent a copy of the medical prescription in which the doctor claimed that she is suffering from bipolar disease. I have to accept that though I was sure Gungun suffered a lot.

I was helpless to prove anything. In few months Gungun got many fits during school hours and at the end of the session, she quit the school only in 8th standard. She went from school but not from my heart. I always curse myself not to do anything for her. I could never forget those two tears which came out from Gungun's eyes.

one evening I decided to visit Gungun. when I reached her house I was not welcomed their Gungun 's mother opened the door and then quickly closed it to see me. I knocked at the door several times but no reply. when I was about to return hopelessly Gungun 's father returned at the same time. Seeing me he greeted me and asked the region of my arrival. when I asked about Gungun I saw sorrow in his eyes and that was the ray of hope. I told him everything about Gungun he was horrified and full of remorse. In the end, he waved his hand and assured that Gungun will come back to school.

The next day was Sunday and on Monday when I reached school I saw Gungun with his father at the school gate. Gungun was smiling, his father handed over Gungun to me and said "Nana is behind the bars. Mam, Gungun is in school, make her like you mam." I took Gungun's hand in my hand and we went together towards room number 13. Gungun was muttering in a low voice about her dream of becoming an IPS officer and punishing all the wrongdoers.
