FLASH BACK

"Happy birthday to you...happy birthday to dear Lizzy...happy birthday to you."

Liz was standing in front of cake with candles lit...It was her 7th birthday. Everyone was singing her a birthday song. She was accepting those heartening wishes with her typical molar to molar warm contagious smiles. Most precious gift she received that day was a boy called Jacob...her friend for life and her first and only love. Collins family has moved in the neighbourhood just a day before. Actually Mr Johnson; Liz’s dad has suggested Mr. Collin; his new colleague that a home in the vicinity about four row houses away from them was requiring tenants.

At that time, she was 7 years old and Jacob was 9. Both were having totally contrasting natures…she was playful, stubborn and carefree child whereas Jacob was mature for his age, understanding, and a mysterious combination of introvert and extrovert…rather only extrovert with Liz and Jenna; his younger sister. All three of them used to play together. Despite of their age and personality differences...eventually Lizzy and Jacob became Liz and Jake for each other...best friends...best buddies for life.

All those school days...summer vacations brought them closer and closer...They would run like gust of wind together through those green meadows on town outskirts under bright sunlight. They would climb a tree just to peek at sparrow's nest...They would share even a single cookie or toffee between them. On rainy days, they would get soaked in the rain and compete to see who's boat wins the race. The bond of friendship between them was growing stronger and stronger...so strong that...that nothing could break it.

But what happened then?...When Liz fell for him?...Was Jake ever loved her back? Was there a mere friendship between them?...To know that, we need to listen to this story further.

"I still have those memories in my mind,

Those old stories of ours...you always remind.

We never cared about sun and rain,

Not a single day with you was a vain.

All cookies and toffees we always shared,

I never knew, I could be so cared.

I remember that climb on the tree,

Our struggle to let that parrot in the cage free.

You cried with me when I was hurt,

Was it my fault for loving you without being alert?

“Liz, we are buddies through thick and thin”,

Then why you suddenly disappeared from within?

Now, I want to visit those times so bad,

I wish to have everything between us we never had."

...It's good to have close friends and its best to have one and only best friend...that one who will be always there for you...who will not judge you...and with whom you can go crazy. Unconditional friendships are rare...So, treasure those friends forever.
