First Meeting
First Meeting
It was a beautiful evening as beautiful as it could have been. The stars were shining brightly all throughout the sky. Every part of the landscape was filled with sheer happiness. The waves from the sea were hitting the foot of the dunes and splashing water, which felt mystical. I was amused by all this beauty when I first saw her. She was sitting right around the corner all alone reading a book. Her eyes were so clear and lucid, it felt like staring into the universe. It seemed like her smile could fix everything broken in this world. Her face was like an emotion that could express everything at once, without enunciating a word. The grace on her face, her beautiful black hair, her ever so mesmerizing eyes, and her simple yet disarming smile, all worked seamlessly together to define something greater than the sum of its parts. She was radiant and mystical in her own ways.
Somehow, I gathered all my courage and slowly ventured into the deep sea of random thoughts, inching towards her. I settled down on the edge of the shoreline discerning the waves on the sea. She turned around and looked me in the eyes. It was a dialogue without any exchange of words. That moment had something special in it. She might have had some flaws but at that moment she was exemplary.
Her face was calm and serene as a leaf floating in the water, on a quiet winter evening. She said something but I couldn't understand the words, yet her voice was euphonious. We sparked a little conversation sitting in the shade of the beautiful sky filled with shimmering stars. The melody of the waves, the soothing light from the sky, the beautiful sound of her voice and the whisk air, were together creating a symphony in my ears. We talked and hours went by. I eventually asked her for a walk along the beach. She tucked a small strand of her hair behind her ear, only for the wind blowing through to undo it and said yes. On that small brisk walk on the shore of one of the most beautiful beaches of the city, I shared almost everything with her what I had kept in my heart for years. I was feeling content and dismal at the same moment because I knew those moments were beautiful and I would only have them as memories when she was gone.
And Before we both could realize, it was time for her to leave. She had a flight to catch that night. She picked up her small little bag which seemed to have a few more books and other belongings in it, getting ready to leave for the airport. I didn't want her to go but my sigh wouldn't make a difference. Airport was at a little distance from where we were so we just decided to have another walk. The air was still sneaking through the trees on the back street, the stars were still shimmering through the misty clouds, the enigmatic sound of the waves hitting the shore could still be heard, but everything appeared to be motionless and calm as still water. Until we reached the airport she didn't say anything at all, but I could read her face. She was sad, I wanted to roll back the clock and take all the sadness away, but I had the feeling that if I did the joy would be gone as well.
Eventually, there we were standing at the point which would take us apart. She looked me in the eyes and handed over the book she was reading on the coast. I wanted to hold that little moment inside me and I will always remember it, maybe. In that moment we both didn't say a word and she starting moving towards the departure gate. While leaving I could see her eyes shimmering with little tears.
