Some writers get inspiration from incidents of the past, some from current affairs, war, and stories of people. It's incredible how some of the famous writers get inspiration from war. Clive Staples Lewis

In 1898, Lewis was born. When he was 19 years old, he went on to settle in France, and he began studying to volunteer in the British army. The following year, Lewis got injured by the British shell. 

He then dedicated the rest of his life to good writing. Some of the books he wrote include; Mere Christianity, Space, Miracles, Chronicles of Narnia, and The Screwtape Letters.

Lewis died of a heart attack in 1963, but his works retained his name as one of the greatest writers in British history. His work gained recognition such that it was made into a movie more the once.


Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald

Fitzgerald is a legendary fiction writer. As an American, his work revealed life in the Jazz Age (a time between 1920 and 1930 when Jazz was like the food of the soul). Fitzgerald wrote four successful books in his lifetime; The Beautiful and Damned, This Side of Paradise, Tender is the Night and The Great Gatsby.

His fifth novel would have been The Last Tycoon, but he never finished before he died. However, it got published alongside four other short story collections after his death. Hollywood adapted many of his writings. 


John Roland Reuel Tolkien

Tolkien, born in 1892, is a writing legend who lived through the war, and the war inspired his famous poem "The Lonely Isle." As the writer of great pieces such as Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion, Tolkien retains the 6th position on the list of the great writers in British history since 1945.

Many of his works didn't get published before his death. When his son, Christopher Tolkien, published his works, John Tolkien became the 5th highest paid dead celebrity in 2009, according to Forbes.


Alan Alexander Milne

A. A Milne created the legendary children's character, "Winnie the Pooh." Milne created the "Winnie the Pooh" character during the war as he fought bravely as a soldier during both World Wars.  

Till today, Milne is still one of the best writers in British history. He is best known for his playwriting skills. He wrote several poems during his lifetime.


Since these writers created several of their writings during the war, it is proof that the writing rush can come from anywhere. A little ray of light in the darkness can just be what you need for your creativity to flourish.
