It was a busy morning. I was engaged with my household chores. My husband worked Night shift and was sleeping amid the honking sounds emanating from the road. All of a sudden I heard a dog screaming. I at once ran to my balcony to see what's happening. I am not an ardent animal lover. I don't tame and pamper pet animals. But I enjoy their beauty and innocence from a comfortable distance. I saw a black street dog being lifted by its hind legs with a rope. The poor being refusing to give up, struggling very badly to let it free from the captive.

Alas! Man was successful in lifting it and throwing it in a Municipality vehicle. Poor dog had suffered injuries on its neck and legs. I felt a sharp pain in my heart. Isn't it a fellow living being? Does Man have any empathy and compassion left for street dogs? People buy foreign dog breeds for hefty amounts and consider themselves as animal lovers. Street dogs are euthanized and pet dogs are bred in awful conditions. Why should Man hurt and kill animals for his comfort and luxury? Animals were being transported to hostile locations to entertain Man. Man encroached the natural habitat of animals and expelled them from their homes. This made them dwell into human settlements. And man found cruel ways to kill animals. Don't animals have an equal stake of resources on the Earth as man?
