Curiosity Killed The Cat

Curiosity Killed The Cat

One fine day, while, I was just pondering over some amusing incidents that have taken place with me. The 'dubious-whirls incident' bumped into my head and, caused a grin to appear on my face. Observing the silly grin on my face, my younger cousins asked me the reason behind it.  "Well, there is a mystery tale associated with the grin. Would you like to listen to me resembling a good audience?", I asked.

"Of course. We would love to hear it!'' All three shouted at once. Their excitement was appreciable. So, I started with the narration...

''To this day, the recollection of my childhood fear of being locked up in confined spaces tempts me to burst into fits of laughter. However, when I think of this childhood fear of mine, I recall a so-called paranormal incident that took place with a nine-year-old me.'''

-"Hey, you aren't supposed to narrate horror stories to us. Or else, mom will scold you!'' blurted out one of the children.

Moreover, it's just Karl's bossy style of expressing a 'know-it-all' behavior.

To counter the same; the little chap was made to consider the infamous idea of slouching (whole daylong) in a deserted room infiltrated with 'boredom'.

A minute of silence and I knew my mission was a success!

''Seems that the little chap made up his little mind to start obeying orders'', I chuckled. The kid was left with nothing but a groan that he made for convincing himself.

Then, without wasting another minute, I started with the narration...

''So, the tale starts with a sleepy nine-year-old-me (let's say, 'mini-me') who wasn't feeling sleepy at all, because that day, mini-me had been doing nothing except snoring.

Also, her childhood fear of being in dark and confined spaces didn't miss out on any chance of adding some more uneasiness on that dull, boring night.

However, after more than 101 rigorous efforts of being able to sleep, she started feeling drowsy and was just about to enter the 'sweetish-childish world of dreams', but, her eyes fell on something weirdly large and shady that appeared to whirl on the walls of the living room.

(The living room was adjacent to her bedroom.)

That shady figure startled her. All of a sudden, she covered her face with a blanket and, after a while, started peeping out. She could still see the shadily dubious figure whirling around and over the wall. Her several attempts at consoling herself to consider it a hallucination went in vain.

Well, I don't exactly remember the number of hours that she had wasted observing the many whirls and twirls of that figure. But, I can surely state, one could have finished off savouring 3 large-sized pizzas!

Fortunately enough, the heavens were in the little girl's favour to lend her a saviour kit of 'drowsiness' to pass the night, while pondering over the situation and predicting whether her life is going to change after having witnessed such an eerie event.

To her delight, the next day, she didn't find any suspicious activities taking place around.

Appears great, isn't it? Hwever, the night wasn't as great as the day appeared to be.

This is because the very same night involved a similar dubious figure whirling on the very same walls! Though, after long hours of terrifying observations, she concluded that what appeared to her as 'dubiously-whirling' figures were 'shady' too.

However, this conclusion compelled her to think that those dubious shadows belonged to some paranormal being!

Currently thinking of it, even I'm not able to reason out any explanation that would have ceased mini-me's curiosity and approved her entry into the childishly-sweet world of dreams.

Then, those dubious whirls continued to terrify her by recurring each coming night. Mini-me was perplexed, clueless about what had to be done and couldn't even sleep at night.

All of this chaos wasn't probably enough so the following stormy night; those weirdly dubious whirls were even accompanied by squeaky sounds, which seemed to terrify the most out of mini-me.

As far as I'm able to recall, the next few minutes involved her thinking of all the approximate possibilities that seemed to connect the peculiar chain of recurring events and came up with a non-surprising conclusion- dreadful paranormal apocalypse.

Later, after around 24 long minutes of brainstorming, she came up with an idea which seemed to offer a win-win situation to both parties__ her and the so-called paranormal being. However, the idea implementation seemed to require a real act of bravery; something she had run short of.

That's indeed alot of brainstorming for a little girl though. Anyway, she ran out of excuses and her brain compelled her to stick to the only option, which resembled the act of letting those paranormal whirls sign an 'end-of-curiosity peace treaty' with herself.

Visiting the bewitched living-room compartment, amidst terrific thunderbolts and rainstorms (determined to crush her determination) doesn't seem to make any sense. However, at that moment, mini-me had submerged into a dare-devious ocean named "curiosity".

The same curiosity which is known to have killed the cat.

At times, we've heard people denounce excessive explorations for leading to trouble. Nonetheless, mini-me was completely helpless and she just couldn't dodge away the dubiety which had almost restrained her peace of mind.

So, finally, she was determined to enter the living room, which according to her, could even result in collapsing into a chasm of eternal gloom.

Mini-me started the battle by taking quiet steps toward the pitch-dark epicentre of delusion (i.e. the living room). However, never could she have a clue on the situational transition that had nearly approached.

As fast as a blink of an eye could contemplate; a set of sturdy dark dubious objects, supposedly resembling a dreadful strand of Medusa's hairs, trapped in the fur-coat of a predator; totally lept onto her face. And this spontaneous stunt was supported by an abrupt growl of the dark clouds amidst the thunderstorm.

As a result, mini-me (already-freaking) let out one of the most terrific screams that a tween could ever let out.

The incredibly shocking chain of events caused the entire family to get alarmed and rush to the area for rescue. Mini-me, unable to contemplate anything, stayed rooted in the very same spot.

A typically familiar trilling sound brought her back to reality; and to her sudden freaking realisation, that 'dreadful set of Medusa-whatever' assumption of hers turned out to be none other than a pair of satiny adorable felines!

As she had just tried to arrange the overly jumbled pieces of the adventure together, her parents had already rushed there and required a reasonable explanation of whatever just happened.

To fulfil the same; mini-me quoted the entire 'Dubious Whirls Incident' to them.

Lastly, she let out an apology with a nervous chuckle resembling a sense of relief and some regret (for troubling the rest of the family).

Further, as she discussed the so-called trauma she had been going through for a few days, everybody started poking fun at her and laughed along.

It was quite hilarious of mini-me to make such kind of pre-assumptions and cause a huge hassle. Nevertheless, the battle against dubiety that she ended up winning, was definitely worth everything.

Likewise;

Curiosity indeed killed the cat, but

satisfaction brought it back.

It is fair enough to denounce explorations and inquiries for the troubles they might provoke. However, one must never forget the divine sense of satisfaction that comes along with the battle against dubiety."

"And yeah Karl, let me assist you in digging some logic out of it- Those felines were just trying to escape the fierce storm by entering the living room from the partially-opened window, situated on the side alley corridor.

Now you can't say that my narrations are old-school like those of next-door Ms Smith", I stated with a smug expression on my face. "Yeah, maybe ", Karl replied in a tedious tone.

(A little public victory to my account. ✔)
