Life… So basically what is life. Living the same day everyday or the same year for seventy five years isn’t what we call life. Life is basically that thing by living it we achieve inner happiness and satisfaction. Fulfilling other’s expectations and dreams or following that path which has already been set by generations for us should not be termed as life. Life should contain every bit of happy, sad, thrilling, adventurous and emotional moments. If this is the case then only your life is eligible to be called as ‘life’.

Simar was a girl like any other girl the next door hailing from Lucknow. A typical sincere and studious girl who barely talked to anyone. She mostly liked to be in her own company enjoying her own thoughtful solitude. Due to this nature of hers she was termed as ‘a girl with a lot of attitude’ by her school mates. But all these things hardly mattered to her. She had seen so many things in her life that people’s opinions didn’t matter to her at all. She was associated with a haunted past. She got matured very early because life showed her the worst side of the world at a very early age.

Simar was never very frank with anyone, not even with her parents. She used to live alone all by herself as both her parents were working. But the less Simar was frank with people, the more she was frank with pen and paper. She used to secure highest marks in English. Her poems and writings used to be featured in school magazines. Due to this talent of hers she wanted to study literature after her twelfth.

But destiny had something else in store for her. She told about her passion to her parents and like every other Indian family where girls aren’t allowed to pursue their dreams, she was also not allowed. On that day Simar tore off all her writings and threw them away. Those torn pieces symbolized the broken pieces of her heart. And on that very day she decided not to write anything ever.

Her parents decided that she should do engineering so she took admission in an engineering college in Jaipur and came from Lucknow to Jaipur. On the very first day of college she got a very good company of her roommates, Ashima and Khushi.

But Simar’s inner self was lost somewhere. She didn’t seem to be happy to anyone in college. She used to lock herself up in her room when her roommates were away and cried for hours. She tried very hard to keep herself busy throughout the day. Firstly the hectic college schedule did not give her time to think about what has happened with her. Secondly, after college she again engrossed herself in her studies to ever give her time for thinking. It wasn’t like nobody asked from her that what’s wrong with her or why she doesn’t seem to be happy but Simar usually let the things get away by saying nothing.

When some time passed, Ashima and Khushi decided to forcefully take Simar in their every outings. After some unsuccessful rejections, Simar finally agreed to join with Ashima and Khushi alongwith their other friends. This was the first time when she was going out with so many strangers except her roommates. But still Simar gave a try to move a step towards friendship.

It was time for a college bunk and the whole group went for an outing to a fort. Simar was introduced to many other people who were in her class only but she never interacted with them. One of them was Kalpit and the other was Varun. Simar liked their company very much and really enjoyed that trip. She was so genuinely happy that day. She thanked Ashima and Khushi that they took her with them. Ashima and Khushi were also very happy by seeing Simar so happy for the first time.

As the time passed Simar really started enjoying the company with everyone. She started having conversations with more people. Kalpit and Varun were now those good friends which she got after Ashima and Khushi.

But all of a sudden Simar separated herself from everyone in her group. She stopped talking to Kalpit, Varun, Ashima and Khushi. All four of them weren’t able to understand as to what has happened so suddenly. They completely had no idea that why Simar took such a big step.

Varun was the most practical and sensible person amongst them all. He decided that he will have a talk with Simar. Varun was a very good friend of Simar so he somehow convinced Simar to come to a park where she was unknown that others would also be present there. As soon as she reached there she was shocked to see everyone there. Simar decided to leave from there but was stopped by Kalpit. He started asking her that if she felt so good with him and with others, then why did she take such a big step of not talking with them. Simar did not want to answer all these questions. Varun said that if there is anything she wants to share then she is free to share it. Ashima and Khushi also made her understand that if she won’t share anything then she won’t be able to face happiness ever. Simar broke down after this and told them about her haunted past. That past which was spoiling her present and that was restricting her for going towards her successful future.

Simar stated that she has faced child abuse and physical harassment in her childhood by her relative. Her parents have always been busy in their respective jobs so she had no one since childhood with whom she can share everything which she had gone through all that time. She also said that when unable to share her thoughts and feelings with people, she shared them with pen and paper, but her parents sent her to engineering college forcefully and now she has stopped writing. She is afraid that if she will come close to anyone, she might end up losing them.

Everyone was shocked after hearing this. Ashima and Khushi even cried with Simar. On that day nobody was able to utter a word. Simar, because she had to remember her past again which completely changed her while the others, because they never knew that a girl who used to be so happy in front of them was hiding such dark secrets in her heart. But they never gave upon her. They also decided that whatever happens and how much time it takes but they will make sure that Simar will follow her dreams and will also become a changed person.

All of them convinced Simar to start writing. Simar started writing and after some time she started winning prizes again. She also won cash prizes in different levels of writing competitions. Some time later Simar opened her own writing page on social media which also got thousands of followers.

As the time passed Simar and her friends convinced her parents that writing is a vast field and she is very good in that. Simar’s parents were also convinced by seeing her talent.

All five of them: Simar, Kalpit, Ashima, Varun and Khushi, graduated from college with high percentage and a great salary package. Simar side by side wrote her novel with job. Her first novel was based on her college life and how it changed her life. It taught her the real meaning of ‘life’ and ‘friends’.

Her first novel ‘This is my story’ became a huge success in the market. Simar quit her job and now she is a full time writer. She still thanks God for those precious gems of her life which she got in college who made her learn to live life.
