Chaos In The Heavens

Chaos In The Heavens

The weather was extremely tumultuous. Although it was pretty much stormy, it was not raining but the country seemed to be dripping in the gloom. Up above in the heavens, the angels were deep in thought. The same question seemed to be hovering around their minds. They were introspecting themselves when The Lord walked in. So light was His footfall and so deep their melancholy that they did not know of His presence till he spoke to them.’ What is it that troubles you free and happy heart dears?’, He said. The angels who had not noticed Him were startled and each of them swept The Lord a low and upon receiving an appreciative nod from Him went back to their thoughts. The Lord smiled serenely and again inquired about the cause for their melancholy. Love said, ’Lord we are all so troubled by the same question!’ ‘ Dear Love, what is your question?’. Mercy swept The Lord a low courtesy and said, ‘ We would like to know if Death is an angel or devil and how can the mortals achieve it?’. ‘Alas! Dear angels the first question you ask me, I cannot answer but I must summon Death itself for the answer. As to the second question, the mortals can achieve Death and Peace in the true sense when they achieve Love for others, Mercy, Remorse, Sacrifice, Respect, and Imagination.

Now for the first question, I summon Death.’ Just as these words were said, a queer yet mesmerizing voice spoke out of nowhere. ‘ I have heard everything my Lord and now I must give the answer. Angels, I provide the needy the sleep which they seek but sometimes I have to take them from the people they need. If someone really seeks me I greet him like an old friend and servant but then when someone is my victim, I have to take him too. Thus, you cannot call me an angel nor can you call me a devil. If you need me but do not want me, I have to take you on the perpetual journey of eternal sleep but if you want me but no longer need me, I have to move on alone. When you bequeath yourself to the soil to grow from the grass you love, I shall take you or else you must live on.’ The voice said no more after this. The angels were filled with emotions and Death was never heard or seen in heaven or hell. Down below the weather had cleared and those who walked the earth remained as ignorant as ever.
