Bullet To Medal

Major Shukla woke up as sweat broke out on his forehead. He still remembered the day when the bullet went right through his thigh in cross-border firing. The next thing he knew, he had woken up in the army hospital. The doctor said he was really sorry. They had tried everything. But they could not salvage his legs. His army career was over. Rage and regret tore through him. Serving his country was all he ever wanted to do. He was engulfed with sadness, his life looking like a tunnel of darkness.

Five years later, winning the gold at discus throw in Para-Olympics, Major didn’t feel his life was over.

It’s true, every cloud does have a silver lining. In this case, it was the bullet with the silver lining.
