Born Again

Nagma is a teenager who has high aspirations and wants to make it big in life. She lived in the U.S.with her parents.

Last year she visited her grandparents who live in Shimla. After staying for a month, she embarked upon her return journey.

While returning by flight, she experienced nausea and developed a fever. Even after medication, her condition deteriorated and she had to be admitted to the hospital. The doctors diagnosed her with some allergy or similar symptoms.

Her condition did not improve and lastly, she had to be put on a ventilator. Finally, after some days the doctors declared Nagma 'dead'.

Nagma was ten days away from her eighteenth birthday. So her mother requested the doctors to please allow their daughter to be kept in the ventilator till then. However, the doctors said that if Nagma would not show any signs of life until her birthday, then they would turn the ventilator off.

On her eighteenth birthday, Nagma's family and friends surrounded her bed and her mother held her hand and cut the cake.

To everyone's wonder, just when the cake was cut, Nagma opened her eyes. It was a second birth for her!

Slowly and steadily Nagma improved and though now in a wheelchair, the doctors are hopeful that she would totally recover and would be able to walk and run again!
