Only the elders remembered a blue sky.

The sky looked dark and waters muddy after that fateful evening. Mythological tales surround the event.

Some believe it is the result of a long war between humans and gods. Humans won, and the gods were pushed to the Deep, Dark Underground to live there forever. The sky has been deprived of its light after that.

A story my grandmother peddled is about a woman who was wronged by society. She was tortured and then blamed for everything that was wrong with her life. On that fateful evening, people saw rays of light shooting out of her being. Her eyes were invisible. Flames leapt out like tongues of a goddess out to swallow monsters. The village moved away in fear. And then, she gradually sunk inside the Earth, taking away Light with her. The sky has always been dusty after that.

My teacher believes in certain species of ‘light animals’ who disappeared like the dinosaurs. Planet Earth was no longer fit to accommodate them.

The denizens still celebrate a festival to invoke Light. The gods, women and animals have all been forgotten. But they need natural light for so many processes. Artificial light gets more expensive by the day, and the world may soon face a crisis.

A child stands in between with folded hands, looking upwards,

“Sky God, can you see the guilty? Light up their souls with the Truth.”

A light flickers through the Earth and shoots towards the Sky.

People gasp in surprise “That was LIGHT.”

“No, it is TRUTH, and the world is not good enough for it anymore. You need to invoke truth with your acts, not rituals. Light will return.”
