Avi's Cricket Match

It was 4 o ‘clock in the evening, all the kids in the society were having their cricket practice. Avi who was their captain was studying alone in his room as his final exams were near. The vice-captain, Ramesh instructed two players to call Avi as he had some good news. Two of them went to Avi’s house and called out his name. On the first call, no one responded, but on the second call, Avi came. He asked both the players, ‘why are you two guys calling me’,’ don’t you know that I have to prepare for my exams, ‘my exams are just in the next week’. After hearing this, two of them replied that the vice-captain had informed them to tell him about special news which was awaited for him. Avi was curious after hearing this. He intimated to them that he would come to the ground after 6 o ‘clock as he had to study more things. It was 6 o ‘clock when he reached the ground, Ramesh in delight congratulated and appraised Avi after he reached. Avi was astounded. He asked him, ‘what is going on,’ ‘why are all of you so happy. Ramesh replied that they were selected for the state-level cricket tournament. Avi was ecstatic. He excitedly asked Ramesh about the date. Ramesh alluded him that it was going to be held on 5th June at 12 o ‘clock. Avi was awestricken. He exclaimed that it was difficult for him to manage on that day as he had an exam on that day too. All the players were fretting after Avi said this. Avi again reassured them by saying that he would finish the exam swiftly and would try to reach the stadium on time. Two days went by. All the players who were selected for the state-level match were having a tough practice than earlier. They were practicing day night in order to win the match. Finally, it was 5th June, the matchday! ,

Ramesh and all the other players were doing a final practice before the final match. Avi was in his school, still revising his subject before the exam started. It was 10 o ‘clock when Avi’s exam finally started. He wrote all the answers as fast as he could and finished the test within an hour. He submitted the paper to the examiner and rushed to the respective stadium like a bat out of hell. In the stadium, Avi’s team members were in perturbation, as the match was from 12 o ‘clock. But after seeing Avi, the team members were relieved. It was a sharp 12 o ‘clock when both the captains were called for the toss by the umpire. Avi won the toss and elected to bat first. All the players of Avi played well, Avi himself scored 68 runs and Ramesh scored 46 runs. His team gave a huge target of 200 runs out of 120 balls. The opponents who were very renowned played very well in the beginning, but slowly after 10 overs, 4 wickets fell incessantly and all the batsmen were more or less out. Richard, who was the captain of that team, finally came to bat, and he alone contributed lots of runs to his team. It was finally the last ball and the opponents needed six runs to win. Avi instructed the bowler to bowl a Yorker and also told the fielders to be in motion. The bowler bowled, and the batsman hit high in the sky. Avi rushed to take the catch and propitiously took it. The batsman yelled and went out of the field. Both the teams shook hands with each other after the match. Everyone felicitated Avi and Ramesh. Avi was also chosen as the best player of the match. All the team members of Avi were celebrating. It was 6 o ‘clock when everyone went home. Everybody in the society praised the players for the win.

 It was 2 months later when Avi’s exam result was out. Avi was nervous from the morning. He had requested his brother Rishi to check his results. It was 2 o ‘clock when Rishi returned with a happy face. He informed Avi that he had passed the exams with very good marks. Avi was very jocular after hearing it. He gave a treat to his family members with his little pocket money for the two successes.
