ANGER

I have my own nursing home in Delhi. The place is very near to Jantar Mantar. Most of the time this place is very peaceful and this is not like other crowded places in Delhi but when there is some demonstration at Jantar Mantar, the crowd is too much and make us uncomfortable.

It was a sunny day in May and the weather was very hot. There was a demonstration of farmers at Jantar Mantar. The crowd was more than expected and some of them have come from neighbouring states too. There was some issue with the government which the government hasn't solved even after giving assurances for a long time. There was a huge amount of resentment in the farmers.some of the leaders while delivering a speech got very arrogant and the public also got very angry.

As the government was also suspecting some untoward incidence, it also made the arrangement .the police and paramilitary forces were in big number and they were watching the situation. All of a sudden a few people started pelting stones on the forces .initially police used only tear gas shells but when this was not enough they resorted to lathi charge .there was total chaos all over the place .people started running out of the venue towards

the streets .on the way they also put on fire police vans and other private vehicles.

We saw a crowd of about 50 people running toward our street. I asked my staff to immediately evacuate the hospital and go to some safer place. Luckily we had only two patients in the hospital and they also were stable. In two cars we all left the area in the nick of time.

Soon after, the crowd reached our hospital. They started burning the vehicles parked in the street and also started pelting stones on glass windows of the hospital and neighbouring houses.some of them even entered the hospital and vandalised it. Soon police reached the site and dispersed the mob.

It all lasted about 15-20 minutes. As we came back after an hour, everything was in a mess. All the glass doors and windows were smashed. Some equipment in the operation theatre was also damaged .patient beds were in very bad shape and some of them were damaged beyond repair. Patient files and other papers were scattered all around. We were thinking who were the people who did this, what did they want and what they got out of it. I am still thinking why is this type of anger increasing day by day in our country and where it will lead us to. And these questions remain unanswered.
