Accidental Intoxication

The story I am going to tell you is of those days when I was studying in medical college. After an exhaustive first professional load of studies in the second professional is less, more so in its first semester. We used to call it honeymoon semester. Most of us bunked classes in this semester and used to play games.

It was a day of mahashivratri and so a holiday. We were four friends and were playing cards when a senior came with a jug full of a cold drink made of milk and bhang. It is a tradition on

mahashivratri to take this drink as a prasad of lord shiva. Each one of us drank a glassful of this prasad. Generally, the prasad has a very little quantity of bhang and is harmless but this prasad appeared to be concentrated.

After about two hours one of my friends started laughing. I am also somewhat confused but

was in my senses. I took him to my room and asked him to sleep there. Soon 5-6 students came to my room and started talking irrelevantly. Some were in a good mood and laughing and others just sobbing.

I also started feeling somewhat dizzy and also joined them in irrelevant talk. Soon this talk turned in to a poetry competition and we started making absurd comments on each other in the form of poetry.

It was Tuesday that day and I used to go to Hanuman mandir with one of my friends. He came to my room and took me to the mandir. As we came back we saw that all of them are now dizzy and looked intoxicated. Soon I also started vomiting and my senses also got deteriorated.

My friend and a few other students took us to the emergency and we were on intravenous fluid for 2 hours. When all of us got settled we were in our rooms and soon all were sleeping.

The next morning my friend came to my room laughing. He told all the incidents and we both enjoyed the talk. He also told me that when I was in hanuman mandir, I was sitting there chanting bhajans for one hour.

About 20 years are gone but even now when I and my friend meet we always remember this episode.
