A story of the French Revolution
A story of the French Revolution
Once upon a time in 18th-century France, the country was ruled by King Louis XVI. He lived in a grand palace called Versailles, surrounded by luxury, while most of the people—especially the poor—struggled to survive. France was divided into three groups called “Estates”:
- 🏰 The First Estate: Clergy (church leaders)
- 🎩 The Second Estate: Nobles (rich landowners)
- 👨🌾 The Third Estate: Everyone else—peasants, workers, and the middle class
The Third Estate made up 97% of the population but had the least power and paid the highest taxes. People were angry. Bread was expensive, jobs were scarce, and the king kept spending money on wars and parties.
In 1789, something incredible happened. The people of the Third Estate decided they had had enough. They gathered and formed the *National Assembly*, demanding fair treatment and a new constitution. This moment was like a spark that lit a fire.
🔥 On July 14, 1789, angry citizens stormed the *Bastille*, a prison that symbolized the king’s power. It was the beginning of the *French Revolution*.
The revolution spread quickly. People marched, protested, and demanded liberty, equality, and fraternity. The king tried to stop them, but it was too late. In 1793, King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette were executed by guillotine.
France became a republic, and the old system of monarchy was gone. But the revolution wasn’t easy. There were years of chaos, violence, and power struggles. One leader, *Maximilien Robespierre*, ruled with fear during the *Reign of Terror*, where thousands were executed.
Eventually, the revolution calmed down, and a new leader named *Napoleon Bonaparte* rose to power. He promised stability and became Emperor of France.
