A Splendid Souvenir @IMIT

A Splendid Souvenir @IMIT

Man mingles with time to treasure some of them as memoir and brings a peg of cheer on face even after a couple of decades, amidst the uncertain drive of life in it's own gear. IMIT( 2002 to 2004)was such a landmark in my tiny tenure yet in the professional marathon of life. A denied candidate in his much coveted career (failed to qualify in general quota for State MBBS after two consecutive years of coaching ), eventually pushed to pursue MBA- Marketing, in this elite but not limelighted institution.... IMIT. Though it was a deleberate decision to sit in both premedical and UMAT entrance, but didn't have an inclination towards UMAT at all, besides a damn defense strategy to steer my professional career to some promising mileage ahead. But who is capable enough to go against the tossed destiny?

The day resumed at IMIT with least quantum of euphoria, so ducking the rhetorics of wellcome ceremony and other so called unpleasant junior senior hustles. However the 1st year identification was not fading so early for us from the seniors and super seniors, confronting with some electric spark remarks from them either inside the classroom or out( the subject was much diversified from phenotype to genotype, curriculum to coverpage....). Amidst all these catastrophes, the flavour of a cohesive colleagues was not missing even a second for us there wearing the imposed scout squad uniform, clean shaved mustache and bowing down to them while meeting with a mouth sealed smile. Days were meant to pass bye, clearing the windshield for us to stare at looming responsibilities on us from a mediocre family who even cut their last piece of cloth to afford our free govt seat of UMAT in IMIT at a modest 22, 500/- for 2 years all inclusive. Although we were in an old premier elite Govt Institution, but the infrastructure was no better than our village U.P school, some asbestos roofed dozen class rooms while the rest were in jeopardized condition as if waiting to be declared as heritage institution by ASI. The boon was for us, some jewels of professors ( Mr B. K. D, Mr S. K. Mishra, Mr L. N. Das, Mr Patnaik, Mr Boidhar, Mr Khatua, Madam Manju and not able to remember some others) who inculcated some morale, ethics and torched us to our new gospel of life besides the age old curriculum.

When time has passed, there is a lot to remember and relive those cherished golden spell of time mixed with humour, tragedy and a pair of precious lessons of life. As we didn't have a canteen inside the campus then nor even any stalls outside, had dared to enter the BOSE canteen as an unsolicited trespasser. But post a healthy introduction and intelectual greetings with the canteen manager, we had enjoyed a priority bench service there with luscious😋 and most economic meals. Among a dozen or more hilarious incidents the best was during the exams..... students were begging behind Mr Boidhar ( corporate law professor) to act as a facilitator for just 10-15 mnts in our 2 hour spell to utilize the Micro-xerox ones( a best missile in the war of malpractice then) and post the exam the brigadiers(students successful in hitting the target with the missile) were touching the feet of Mr Boidhar in sheer gratification.

The second best hilarious one was, a couple of our colleagues'( Kishan, Avay, Satya Mohanty, Rabindra, Sudhanshu, Dipti and others) erudite but amusing sense of humor😆 with professors and ourselves . Could remember the mathematics class funs, while Madam Manju and another senior Madam were busy in their duster and chalk session on black board beyond our brain reception..... we were stairing each other and smiling, being caught by Madams rebuked and punished to come out and try our hand on black board to workout the sum! Then students like Avay, would come out voluntarily and solve it in a much easier way to everyone's cheer in alas!

Another incident of bewilderment transforming into disguise followed by unending laughter😂 is as below......

Just before the semester exams there emerged a proactive team lead by captain Ajay, to render us subjectwise set of Microxerox ones to utilize in the gamble of malpractice on exam days at an affordable denomination. On one such day, one of our colleague ( Dipti) came out of exam hall in absolute delight wearing a victorious smile on face and went straight to his buddy ( Manas Pani) to embrace him in sheer gratification telling “you saved me bro..... I could complete all three of those”. Mr Pani was in puzzle, asking “which three.... those I dropped back? Those were for last day paper's only! ” and we all were in bursts of laughter😂. But the consequence was quite opposite on Dipti's pale face and he was forced to join in our laughter rhythm just like a roll camera action sequence.

Humor was just not the only dividend in our two precious years of investment with IMIT. We could learn some good lessons of business administration inside out in our respective specializations including mine..... marketing too. In marketing classes, there was half a class dedicated in proactive participation with the erudite faculties. Me, Avay, Manas Das, Ajay, Imran, Kalyan, Niharika, Bandita and others used to present our intakes from the faculty and it's applications in practical field of marketing, referring business dailies ( Eco Times, Business Standard ) and other journals. This had really made us prepared enough to face the brisky corporate business world now. This well gained confidence has boosted my morale to represent IMIT at par with IIM/ IITs not just in mere pronunciation but in real inception while answering interviewers in corporate world of Mumbai in my early job hunting days.

Time has rolled on, those flock of us from IMIT 2002-04 have flown it's flag well high in multiple walks of life. Have heard, IMIT has not denied the call of change too in it's look and book there after us ( we were the last batch of Utkal University before the regime of BPUT on it), but “the IMITians” will ever be the ATP of our career genome ahead.....
