A Little Journey

A little young girl, who was told all of a sudden that she had to travel all the way to India for her studies. None of it was planned. Non of it was discussed. Yes. That girl was me. 17 years old. Never been away from parents, never been into struggles, I traveled all the way from Dubai to Delhi. All alone. For the first time. I didn't question my mum. My heart kept screaming at her. It kept getting disappointed with her, but I respected her more than anybody. I knew it was for my own good. Before leaving, all she said was, "Go baby, follow your dreams, live them."

And I kept wondering how was this my dream. But it clearly wasn't.

I was growing up. I was experiencing people, experiencing relationships of various kinds. My friends were beautiful.

I didn't know what career I wanted. And I kept thinking how was this my dream.

Steadily, I was getting into opportunities. I got a call the very same year from the head of SEPHORA Middle East. And I had an appointment letter then the next minute!

About 2 months later, I got a call from MAC. Another offer! A much bigger offer!

I remember my mum telling me, "Dream. Opportunities will lie in front of you."

There's no point of dreaming when you have zero percent interest. Once you know you want it, and you can achieve it, work. Work for it.

There are no impossibilities in dreams. My dream was the UN. Yes. THE UN. And you know what. I had this conscience that I'd never get through. That I'd never be sitting on a chair representing a nation with so much power and freedom of speech. But dreams, yes, they do come true. You've gotta hold on. You've gotta believe. I was on that chair on the 16th of July 2017. I had people appreciate me. But above all, I had my mum say to me "I'm proud of you. I'm proud to be addressed as your mother. I'm proud, you grew up to be such a strong and independent individual." Getting this from the woman who meant the world to me, there was nothing more blissful.
