A Birthday That Almost Lost Me My Friends

A Birthday That Almost Lost Me My Friends

Being an introvert has made it difficult for me to make friends. Luckily enough, most of my friends (by "most", I mean 2) are extroverts with a wide network of extrovert acquaintances who are happy to be called my friends, which makes me an extrovert by majority. I didn't like being in a social setting when I was in school. I was always nervous, and kept my thoughts to myself, and just sat quietly in a corner, destroying the whole purpose of it being a 'social' setting.

It was my birthday. We friends had a ritual of meeting and organizing parties in the home of the birthday person to meet and greet each other and have fun. I didn't understand the "fun" part. I knew in my heart that there's going to be a party in my peaceful home at some point, on this day. Now, don't misunderstand me. I am not a bad person, I like my friends, but I have trouble liking and talking to 10 people at a time. I am good with 2-4 people (including myself), but I am talking about 7 human beings in the same place excluding my mother and brother. I was nervous more than excited.

As a result, I tried my best to ruin my own birthday party. My friends gathered at another's place, (for planning) where I would purposefully go to distribute chocolates, and "hangout". They were visually irritated and came up with a reason to kick me out of the house. I also tried calling everyone, so that I could ruin my "surprise" for myself. Everyone was irritated and angered by my behavior. The last thing I wanted was an angry mob coming for me on my own birthday, and I know for a fact that my mother and brother would join hands with them.

It was finally time. My peaceful abode was populated. Everyone was a little angry, but we took photos and had cake. Mother had made 'masala dosa' which was a favorite among the crowd. We had food, and I explained myself to them. They were still angry and said that they were almost on the verge of cancelling the party. I had no problem with that, but somewhere in my heart I liked what happened today (I am talking about the party). It was a day to remember.
