Victors and Victims - False Togetherness

Got permission for trade and commerce

Soon they occupied vital posts

For centuries they remained as curse.

History is replete with instances

Where guests subjugated hosts in peaceful parts of the globe

But countries refused to learn lessons

Giving guests power to rob and probe.

The minuscule outside plunderers

Soon occupied almost the entire country

The subjugated took pride in being lackeys to governors

And Joined outsiders in adding to commoners’ misery.

Here they sit together

Leaving no doubt in minds of people

Which people are better

And more than equal.

A momentary loss of sanity of a ruler

Or rulers’ internecine battles

Led to centuries of dark future

And the times of cruelty and madness.

It is said that history repeats itself

And punishes those who are not foresighted

Unless nation awakens itself

And the flame of love for the country is ignited.
