Trust us: We are one of you
Trust us: We are one of you

Collapsing vitals and flatlines spelling impending doom,
We perform cardiopulmonary resuscitations but he is gone.
Steadfast as the patient dies and relatives fume,
Trust us, our hearts feel empty too.
Yet, duty beckons as the next patient enters the room.
Even our moments, spent with the life that has withdrawn,
Frequently, in our thoughts and prayers bloom.
Trust us, we are humans too.
Amongst us, a few rotten apples may have spoiled our room
But it is also true that fame and all it spawns,
Was never desired by most of us, as people may assume.
Trust us, we have lost our loved ones too.
All of us, doctors, physios and nurses in emergency rooms,
We too wish that the pandemic be gone.
So that the Earth may need no more tombs.
Trust us, we feel the pain too.
And once you rejoice, brides reunited with their grooms,
We too shall return to our parents, spouses, and children.
Though on duty, we may be dressed in white,
Trust us, we are also one of you.
