Their Love Was Like Poetry
Their Love Was Like Poetry
Their love was like poetry
Hearts beating together
Like the lines of a poem
Pulsating in rhythm
Asymmetrical at times,
Rhyming only at random intervals,
Like the waves of the sea
Words bumping against one another
Some making no sense
And a few, fitting together
Like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle
There were days when they were like sonnets
Singing the lyrics of their shared vows
On others, they sat by the fire
Holding hands
Watching the flames gulp down
The remnants of the fights they just had
Just like the surge of passion poets feel
To fill their own emptiness with words
Cascading down their souls
They were sometimes, like haikus
Expressing all their love
In the little things they did for each other
And often they sat in silence, as if fluent in its language
Drawing metaphors out of the moments
When their eyes met, their hands touched and their souls connected
Their love was indeed like poetry
Beautiful, serene, and deep
But not understood by many
And sometimes, not even by them
