The Settling Dust
The Settling Dust
I lay in my bed reading my favorite book while sipping on a cup of tea
When, I feel a tremor
I immediately sit up to see cracks being formed on the ceiling
I rush to my parents screaming their names
Yelling at them to step out
Our house begins to topple
Books falling out of their shelves
Cutlery crashing into a million pieces
I run to my parents’ room, to find their bodies crushed by the cupboard
A blood curdling shriek escapes my throat
I try my best to lift the cupboard off them, but in vain
I go outside to see mayhem across the street
Families crying about losing a family member
Numerous animal lives lost
The dust settles as a way of showing
This chaos too will settle
