The Party of Old Faces

The Party of Old Faces

Today, my father sent me photographs
of old colleagues meeting again—
faces once young,
now softened by time.

The ladies who once carried
their own unique charm and grace
now wore the same quiet marks of age.

Yet they smiled,
they laughed,
some spoke as they always did,
while some sat quietly,
hiding stories behind their eyes.

Perhaps every smile carried
a little pain,
a memory,
a name silently missed.

And then I noticed—
no one asked about those who were absent.

Because some were no longer
able to come.

They had become memories,
leaving behind empty chairs
and familiar names in someone's heart.

Perhaps that is what growing old is—
meeting the ones who remain,
remembering the ones who left,
and smiling anyway.

For a few precious hours,
they were young again—
together,
laughing,
remembering,

celebrating not just a reunion,
but the beautiful life
they once lived.
