The Only Truth
The Only Truth

She lay still in the casket
A ragged doll with wrinkles all over
None could say what beauty she once was
Nobody to mourn, nobody to sing her praise
Millions had enjoyed her acting
Millions still hum her songs
Thousands of men enchanted by her beauty
Dreamt of living with her forever
Heroes vied to partner her
Heroines envied her supremacy
Directors queued up at her doors
Box offices overflowed thanks to her
Her bright eyes hid her pains
Her music and dance expressed them, though
Glitter, glamour, colour and humdrum
People never saw the real HER behind
Years passed; beauty waned
Little could the paint hide
The wrinkles, black spots, grey hair and all
The loneliness, depression, fear and defeat
Whither went the hu
ge family inside her home?
Whither went the crowd outside her doors?
Everything had changed inside and outside
No noise of the ringing phones or the calling bells
From heroine to hero’s mother
From main roles to side roles
From silver screen to small screen
The descent was really fast
She was needed as long as she meant money
Once she was not worth millions
Vanished everybody around her, along with her wealth-
Her brothers, sisters, cousins and even her parents
She spent the evening of her life
All alone, pardoning everybody for their selfishness
In the company of her pet dog
And the soothing pegs of a few drinks
One last time as she was wheeled into the ICU
She relived her entire life of glamour, fame, and loneliness
Nothing is permanent - Name, fame, money, wealth, relationships or beauty
Valiantly she set off to embrace death - the only truth!
