’Twas just another winter night

The sky filled with sparkling stars

She sat at the window and gazed at the moon

Admiring it from afar

A gust of cold breeze swept in,

Sending a shiver right through her...

She sighed and pulled her wrap closer,

Thoughts racing in a blur.

The night sky always calmed her,

After a long day at work...

But this night was different,

She wished the events of the day had never occurred...

She’d chucked off most of her burdens,

Made peace with her past...

Forgave all their folly,

Lived each day as if it were her last...

Tonight her eyes brimmed over,

Lips trembling from holding back sobs...

Once again she had trusted,

Of her dignity, she had been robbed...

She shook her head to clear her thoughts,

Gulped in a deep breath or two...

She wouldn’t let this bring her down,

She was not a quitter, that was true...

Life had made her stronger,

Wiser than her years...

Having overcome all of life’s hurdles,

She brushed away the unshed tears...

The DAWN would bring a new day,

Filled with miracles big and small...

A few more hours of darkness,

Would not be her downfall...

And so she picked herself up...

Headed for her bed...

Lay herself down and closed her eyes,

Not thinking much ahead...

Morning came and brought new light,

Singing birds and the will to move on...

She threw off the covers and jumped to her feet,

Finally here was the DAWN.....
