The Bitter Farewell

The Bitter Farewell

1 min
371

O fleeting love, once sweet, now gone,

A flame that flickered with the dawn,

Now drowned in sorrow’s endless sea,

The heart that loved, must cease to be.

With tender whispers, soft and sweet,

Thy presence warmed my soul’s retreat;

Yet, now that warmth is but a trace,

A shadow left, thy fleeting grace.

In vain I strive, in vain I seek,

The solace that my soul doth speak,

For love, once firm, now slips away,

Like autumn leaves that fade and sway.

Thy name, once uttered with delight,

Now stirs the heart with ceaseless plight;

A song that once did fill the air,

Now leaves behind an empty prayer.

Alas, sweet love, I must depart,

For in my breast, thou break'st my heart.

The ties that bound me to thy side,

Must now be severed, cast aside.

Yet still, I mourn with tearful eye,

And wonder why, in silence, I

Must bend my will to fate’s cruel sway,

And watch thee fade, so far away.

Though grief may mark my heart with shame,

I shall not speak thy sacred name.

For in this void, I seek release,

To bid thee go, and find my peace.

So in the stillness of the night,

When stars above have lost their light,

I shall remember, but not weep,

For love must die, and I must sleep.

And in the quiet of the morn,

A heart once broken shall be reborn—

Not in the shadow of thy grace,

But in the strength of love’s own space.
