Shallow

You were sitting by the window,

Looking at those dark clouds looming,

Holding this warm cup of tea, but stuck in limbo,

With all those memories of yesterdays consuming.

They visit you oftentimes,

Even after all your attempts to block them out,

Making you feel not worth a fucking dime,

And you agree with it without the shadow of a doubt.

With each passing seconds on your display clock,

Your head bows down further and further.

Not knowing what's going wrong, you feel choked,

And lets out a huge sigh that sounds like a murmur.

A shallow complaint of the soul that left your side,

Is this what disappointment feels like?

You laugh to yourself and tell it to join the line, a significant stride.

Raising your head, you look at the drops falling out of the sky, it was dreamlike.

It was raining heavily, like the insides of your mind,

A significant outburst, which would clear out the skies,

As you feel the raindrops on your face, you know you're no longer maligned.

Waiting for the sweet smell of petrichor now, as soon as the rain dies.

It's time for new beginnings now,

Sipping from the cup and getting the warmth off it, you cross your heart and make that vow...
