Reconnect With Nature!

Reconnect With Nature!

After the long tiring day, I curled up in my couch with a steaming cup of coffee,

I switched on the TV and surfed through the channels.

Suddenly the topic of discussion, are we heading for a better tomorrow?

Caught my attention, and sent shivers down my spine.

As I toyed with the idea, I was forced to give it some serious thought.

Are we millennials, really living a better life than our ancestors?

We are the most educated generation, in human history,

but are we more environmentally responsible too?

The question agitated me!

Restlessly I got up and stared into the sky, the light of the day was growing weak and pale.

Lost in my thoughts I wandered down the memory lane.

I found myself standing at my granny’s home,

A small dwelling nestled among trees, peaceful and serene.

I saw the swing and remembered, the afternoons spent on it were so pristine!

Oh! How could I forget, this always was a part of my childhood dream!

These memories are so deeply embedded,

I still know everything about this place. It, was only yesterday it seems.

But little did we know to where we were headed?

Life was simpler then.

This is how I remember it.

My grandparents lived in harmony with nature.

They had simple needs and believed in simple deeds.

The air was pure, the water was clean.

Their fruits and vegetables were organic,

And life was so much less manic!

They had no fear of being trapped in their complexities!

They had the freedom to live and let live!

Oh, life was intoxicating and exhilarating!

It is our insatiable greed which has brought us to the threshold of Doomsday!

And we the most liberated, emancipated, millennial dare to call them ignorant!

Well! to all this, what do you have to say?

We have robbed our children of their freedom.

The freedom to play in the open field, to breathe in the fresh air!

The freedom to ride bikes, climb trees and explore their childhood without any scare!

Who I wonder is more unlearned, unlettered and unmindful?

We or they?

We are the creators of our destiny!

Our destiny is determined by our chosen actions.

We and we alone can change the course of our actions.

All we need is to simply reconnect with nature!
