Popsicle

Popsicle

2 mins
260

An icy mess in the winters chill,

Longing only for a taste of warmth,

But when the sun comes up, the Popsicle will start to melt

And then, maybe everything will cease to exist.

The nights only get colder,

the day - just enough to get by

But it’s fine, it’s alright,

It’s the norm -

If nothing changes, nothing will cease to be.

But cold nights pass and the sun carries away the dark,

And along with it, it brings you,

A silly little smile, long warm nights and a buzz

Mystifying, to realize that all that was missing was you.

The sun suddenly didn’t seem as harsh as it should’ve been -

All that melted away were the fears within,

for it makes no sense to be scared of things unknown,

Things do change, but sometimes for good.

Because the winters chill never saw the butterflies,

It knew not of warmth, of love, and of hope

It only had seen a world of grey, black and white,

The only touch it had felt was cold.

But with you, everything turned to butterflies and to colours,

A funny feeling that didn’t seem to leave.

Everything was full of smiles, a little laughter, and some sunshine

With you, everything felt a little better.

A frozen soul bred by the chill of the winters

The Popsicle feared the summers, feared that change would cost it its living,

But when the sun rose up, it saw a brighter world,

A better world where there existed hope.

The sun did burn a little,

but not as much,

It didn’t wash the Popsicle away

But as it always tends to be, the Popsicle did melt

Not because of the sun, not because of hate, not because of any harsh extremes,

But because of you -

You make me melt.
