Nirbhaya!

Nirbhaya!

Standing by the side of the road,

Wrapped up from the chill of a Delhi winter evening;

A young woman, making her way in the world,

To rack up her goal, was the deed that she was dreaming.

Aiming towards her home,

Looking outside for the headlights of the bus;

With higher ambition and the sparkle in her eyes,

Until and unless she had the idea that her life was going to be like a gloomy gust.

She was beaten, gang-raped and tortured,

Suffering and forfending herself from all the six men;

She was thrown out of the bus with grievous harm and ripped intestines,

With affliction and insentient condition, she was found then.

Her family sat with her as her heartbeat faded,

All her strength was gone;

Her heartbeat finally stopped,

And there was nothing to be done.

There are tears pouring down,

Tears of sadness and rage;

Better law, and faster justice is what she wants,

But more than anything, she wants attitudes to change!
