Nayah's Story

She was 12 years old 

When her father married 

Her to his friend to pay debts 

Nayah stopped schooling, 

And became a housewife 

If she was playing with 

Her friends she would be beaten, 

If she didn't cook she was beaten 

Even though she did not know how,

She cooked badly, she was beaten 

Like pounding yum, she wears

bruises like coats trying to hide 

The pains 

Under a wing of friendship 

Her daughter is made a sex machine, 

But her dreams are shattered 

Her emotions are unheard 

Her voice is muted by old grumpy 

Grey beard man who lived his boring life. 

Her morning was gloomy 

As she fetched water and sweep

The yard while her friends pursue 

A bright future, the community 

Never knew that their progress 

Is in the youth getting education. 

She was forced to open legs

And forged in a spear piercing 

And burning like bible verse,

When he was floating in drunkenness 

He would bring his friends over 

To get a share in the cake 

Every belly was suffocating her,

Sadness filled her emptiness, 

She felt deserted and ran away 

But she was found and brought back 

She couldn't take it anymore 

She drinked a whole bottle 

Of poison to escape pains.
