Missed Opportunities

I ran from myself today,

Didn't even realize it,

Till was much faraway,

From the missed opportunity.

Looking back In retrospect

It kinda stings.

Be I pride myself

On walking

Wholeheartedly Within purpose. My purpose.

Yet God came to visit me

Came to present an opportunity

And I declined. Turned it down.

Told the vessel that God came through

That was too much!

That I didn't like being put on the spot

And to make it worse

I didn't know any of my audience.

I was a part of a support system

For a family member

Planned to be in the background

Providing the moral support

And silent energetic force

That my fellow soul needed.

But here I was

Being put on the spot

After, for the very first time,

I proudly announced that I was a poet

As the answer to the question

“What's your occupation?"

I didn't desire to say unemployed.

And I didn't desire to explain

my entire developing brand.

So I simply decided to say

That I was a poet.

Clearly the God within

This gentleman Was intrigued.

I feel like I failed a test

By failing to tap into

The voice within

By failing To answer a calling

That I wasn't even consciously aware of.

I've gotta pay more attention.

No more missed opportunities
