Mirror

Their eyes met and terror froze her stiff- all but her heart,

Which beat so rapidly she thought it might crack through her ribcage.

No matter how many times she's been through this horror,

The terror never loosened its grip around her collar.

Each time was as painful as the first,

Even more so with each ticking second trapped in this cellar.

Still stuck in the haze of the moment,

Her mind screamed at her to look away, to end this torture.

And even if she complied, she knew the relief would be a temporary future.

For every time she turned to escape, the mirror would hold her captor
