Liberation Tigers Tamil Eelam

Liberation Tigers Tamil Eelam

If one is determined to die for the truth, even a common man can create history,

Traitors are more dangerous than enemies,

The struggle for the aim of the liberation,

Of women is the child of fire born on the lap of our liberation movement.

If the new government rejects our urgent appeal,

We will, next year, in solidarity with our people,

Intensify our struggle for self-determination,

Our struggle for national liberation to establish self-government in our homeland.

All human suffering springs from unbridled desire,

Unless one extricates oneself from the clutch of greed,

One will not free himself from the fetters of sorrow,

Through the intensive aspiration of the human soul arises in man the desire for independence,

The only one who liberates himself from his psychological desires and fears indeed in truth qualify as a liberation hero.

Whatever reforms are carried out in the economy,

Without deep-going changes in men's mentality? In their opinion about feminity?

Women's equality may not be possible,

People cannot give up their cause,

Their rights, for fear of defeat.

Note: The poem was inspired by the quotes of Velupillai Prabhakaran, a famous LTTE Tamil Eelam fighter in Sri Lanka. I was quite hesitant to write a story based on Sri Lankan Civil War. Yet, have planned to finish off this poem and publish it, seeing the views of readers, so that I could start my story with confidence.
