Let Me Go Alone
Let Me Go Alone
Poem by Akila Victoria Martin
Don’t come to mourn when I am gone,
I walked alone, I wept alone.
You turned away, you left me lone, Then why now bring a grieving tone?
You blamed me when the world was cruel,
No shield, no trust—you played their tool.
Now words of love you softly weave,
Yet never once did you believe.
You scorned my joy, ignored my pain,
No gentle touch, no kind refrain. When silent tears fell in the night, You chose to turn away from sight.
You never joined my days of cheer, Yet now you stand beside me here. Your empty prayers, your hollow cries,
Can’t mend the wounds, can’t dry my eyes.
So let me go, just as I came,
With none to call, with none to name.
No need for flowers, tears, or stone, For I have learned to walk alone.
