Don't You Cry

Look here she said don't you cry she said,

She was hiding her own tears, as she looked at the floor.

For her father had passed away, he was dead.

Any moment she was expecting him to walk through the door.

 She thought he was with all of us just yesterday,

He looks so peaceful in death.

No one knew that death would come for him today.

We have no idea when he took his last breath.

The elders have prepared his body to be taken away,

I am his eldest daughter, I shall carry the fire,

For now, only in our memories does he stay.

After I light his funeral pyre.

The lessons he taught us about equality,

The memories he left behind.

Son or daughter whatever gender, you

Should be judged on your ability.

These are his thoughts, will always remain a part of our mind.

Dear Dad, I know wherever you are,

I promise you, to my siblings, I will play a father's role.

I also know with certainty you are not far.

And you will see, I will fulfil whatever their goal.
