Dearest Grandpa
Dearest Grandpa
Though young, even younger then,
I recall the the younger days of my life.
The stories you told and the morals you taught-
Of the good and bad seen in men,
That to be wise is to be great in life,
And wealth is best not sought.
Dear Grandpa, how I wish you'd understand...
You've been the best! You'll always be!
Strong, yet still so kind and much more love-
Life and ill-wills you did withstand,
To forgive those who put you in your knee,
and even in false defeat all you do is show love.
I try, and sometimes fail, but I do try.
Do you remember when I'd fall and cry?
You'd take me in your arms and wipe my tears
then stomp the ground to bring me cheers.
I am older and stronger now and I don't cry when I fall
But I cry for you, I would cry my eyes dry if you fall,
So please, dearest Grandpa, do not shed a tear drop
Watching your grandson struggle in a slop,
For the battles in life will make me more like you.
Oh, dearest Grandpa, I love you.
